Electronic File Submission Guidelines

*PLEASE READ TO AVOID DELAYS WITH YOUR FILES*

When you have your art file ready (see File Preparation for list of acceptable software), along with your PDF proof, there are several ways to submit them for production. Whatever method you choose, please make sure you include the following:

Company Name
Contact Person
Telephone
Billing Address
Shipping Address
Method of Payment
Product Description
Quantity of Order

NOTE: Please make your files clean and simple. Supply only the files that are necessary to output your job. Always keep a backup of the files that you supply to us. Remember, the more detailed you are in preparing your job, the faster we will be able to turn it around. We also need a sample (print out) of your finished art file for accurate output. Even if you are e-mailing or using FTP to upload your file and PDF, we suggest you fax a hard copy for our job ticket, to expedite processing. The fax number for AmericanPrintingOnline.com is 219-937-3708.

FTP uploads

After your order has been accepted, and you are contacted by our Customer Service Representative to complete the order process, you may request information on uploading your files via FTP (File Transfer Protocol). This method of sending files is useful for very large files. It involves logging into our secure FTP account using your internet browser. It's a simple "drag and drop" procedure. Complete instructions will be emailed to you upon request.

Email

If your file is 10 MB or less, you can email it to us at orders@americanprintingonline.com.

Mail

If you have art or information that must be sent as a hard copy or on a disk, you can mail it to American Printing & Advertising, Inc., 5324 Hohman Avenue, Hammond, IN 46320.

How to Make a PDF

Most newer versions of desktop publishing programs have the ability to export the art as a PDF or they give you the option to print to a PDF. In either case just make sure that you Embed the fonts and convert all the images to CMYK. These are options in the PDF controls. Usually you will have the option to export for Screen or export for Press, just select the export for "Press" or "Print" option and you should be fine.

For those programs that don't have these options you will need to save your work as a Postcript file and then use Adobe Acrobat Distiller to convert it to a PDF. Also Acrobat Distiller has the options to distill the files as Screen, Print, Press, and PDF/X1a.
Once again just make sure that the export option is set to "Press" or "Print" and that all the type is embedded. Click here to view a PDF White Paper about the benefits of the Acrobat Distiller 6.0 or 7.0.
